本校は明治 29(1896)年に岐阜県尋常中学校東濃分校として開校した県下で４番目の伝統校で、校内には明治・大正・昭和・平成の各時代につくられた自転車置場があり、本校の歴史を現在に伝えています。立地する赤陵の森は自然に恵まれ、中山道御嶽宿にも近く、往時の風情を遺すところでもあります。

令和7年4月に東濃高等学校の校長に就任してから、気がつけば早くも1年が経ちました。今年度は、11月に「創立130周年記念式典」の開催を予定しており、大きな節目の年となります。長い歴史と伝統に深く敬意を払いながら、現在本校に通う生徒、教職員とともに、未来へ向けて新たな一歩を踏み出せることに大きな喜びを感じます。

この20年ほどで、本校を取り巻く環境は大きく変化し、求められる役割も同様に変わってきました。現在では、生徒の6割以上が海外にルーツを持ち、多様な文化が日常の風景となっています。毎朝、生徒たちに日本語、英語、ポルトガル語、タガログ語で「おはよう」「Good morning」「Bom dia」「Magandang umaga」と声をかけるたび、笑顔で挨拶を返す彼らが本校にもたらしてくれるエネルギーと可能性を強く感じます。こうした日々の交流は、私たちが目指す学校の未来と使命を思い起こさせる大切な時間です。

私は、中学校や地域の皆さま、来校者の方々へよく次のようにお話しします。

「東濃高校は、多文化共生を体現する、まさに唯一無二の学校です。」

そして、次の言葉を続けます。

「本校の最大の魅力は生徒たちです。異なる文化的背景をもつ若者たちが集い、創造性と活気に満ちた環境をつくっています。ここでは、異なる言語や習慣、価値観が交わり合い、その中でこそ得られる貴重な学びと大きな成長があります。」

生徒には、次のような願いを込めて言葉を届けています。

「ここで得た経験と学びを誇りに、社会で活躍できる人へと成長してください。仲間と共に過ごした日々を大切にし、“TONO PRIDE” の精神を胸に歩んでいってください。」

令和7年3月には、本校の役割を明確に示すスクールミッションを策定しました。

「多様な価値観や個性、文化を持つ生徒が共に育ち学ぶ高校として、主体的な学びと地域に根差した教育活動を通して、次代を担い、ふるさとに貢献できる人材の育成を目指す学校。」

その実現のためには、今日私たちが抱える課題を乗り越える必要があります。しかし、これらの課題こそが、実は私たちの大きな強みにもつながっていると考えています。130年の歴史がつくり上げた「今」は、未来へ向けて前向きな変化を生み出す絶好の機会です。

生徒、教職員とともに、地域の皆さまの信頼と期待に応えられる学校として歩み続けると同時に、東濃高校の新たな歴史を築いてまいります。

どうか保護者や地域の皆さま、関係諸機関におかれましても、本校の教育活動への変わらぬご理解、ご協力をいただきますようお願い申し上げます。

This year marks a significant milestone—the 130th anniversary of our school’s founding. With deep respect for its long history and traditions, we began this year with
great expectations, determined to take a bold step toward the future.
Over the past two decades, the environment surrounding Tono High School has changed dramatically, and so have the roles expected of us. Today, more than 60% of our students have connections to foreign countries, and diverse cultures are part of our everyday life. Each morning, as I greet students with “Good morning!” in Japanese, English, Portuguese, and Tagalog,  I feel the energy and potential they bring to our school. These daily interactions remind me of our mission and the future we envision as we work together to shape school life.
When speaking to junior high schools, local residents, and visitors, I often say:
“Tono High School is truly a one-of-a-kind school that embodies multicultural coexistence.”
I then add:
“Our students are the source of our school’s greatest strength and beauty. Here, young people from various cultural backgrounds come together, creating an environment rich in creativity and energy. This unique setting—where different languages, customs, and perspectives intersect—offers invaluable learning opportunities and fosters remarkable growth.”
To our students, I share this hope:
“Take pride in the experiences and learning you gain here, and become individuals who will make a difference in society.  Cherish the days you spent learning with your peers, and carry the spirit of ‘TONO PRIDE’ in your hearts.”
In March of Reiwa 7, we established our School Mission, which clearly defines our role:
“As a high school where students with diverse values, personalities, and cultural backgrounds learn and grow together, we aim to nurture individuals who will lead the next generation and contribute to their hometown through active learning and community-based education.”
To realize this mission, we must overcome the challenges we face today. Yet, I believe these challenges are, in fact, our greatest strengths. The “present” shaped by 130 years of history is an opportunity to drive positive change for the future. Together with our students and faculty, we are committed to continuing as a school that earns the trust and expectations of our community, while creating a new chapter in Tono High School’s history.
